'REbélate' was a group pop-up project in havana, cuba.
This project was sponsored by the AutoDesk Foundation and part of a study away program called Fresh Eyes Cuba by Designmatters. The installation was created in collaboration with an ArtCenter classmate and 3 students from the Instituto Superior de Diseño (ISDi) in Havana, Cuba.
Our installation created a space that is familiar, safe, and somewhat private for people to express themselves, reveal their thoughts, and feel free. The symbolic installation, which evokes a bathroom stall, created an enclosed environment with sheets that included a toilet at the center and markers to write with.
The concept and final production was all made in 4 days. With limited materials, time and access to resources.
After two days of discussions on the cultural changes in Cuba, the lack of privacy and freedom of expression, we came up with a temporary and fun solution.
